McLaren main Zak Brown has stressed the teams return to Mercedes motors in 2021 will not be for them winning races in 29, the sole catalyst.
McLaren last week declared that a return into the producers power unit from the season after following when the teams deal with Renault comes to an end.
Brown, McLarens CEO, clarifies McLaren as being at amomentum-building style and says that the Mercedes deal provides after farther piece to the puzzle as they bid to return to the front.
Asked when the change in electricity unit would return them into winning ways, Brown told Sky Sports F1:On time, however I believe it is not power unit thats holding us back from winning races at the moment, I think that its ourselves.
I really dont think we are yet prepared to win – it is one step at a time. Were having a good year and we need to continue taking steps forward.
In Formula 1 that which is about little incremental gains, but I believe it is not quite as simple as putting another engine and we are back to the front. We have got a whole lot more work ahead of us than just changing motors.
Brown added:The chassis is pretty great but I do not think its as excellent as the 3 teams facing us, very frankly. Where its some weak spots on track, we all know.
Weve got a new wind tunnel coming and that I think were behind in certain aerodynamic development, partially because we do not have our own wind tunnel that is state of their art. With Formula 1 it a little bit everywhere as opposed to one specific place, so I think were making progress.
If you have a look at Mercedes, before they ruled they won a race and then you build momentum, so were only in a momentum-building mode right now.
A race was last won by a combined 20 world championship titles winners but their current fourth-place from the constructors championship is their best placing since that year.
And Brown considers F1 world champions can be finally challenged by them .
I am very confident that Mercedes supplies all the telemetry so its clear what is in the Mercedes grand prix automobile is exactly the exact same thats in the Williams and also the Dominion Point cars, said Brown to colleagues.
